Endpoint Central vs Microsoft Intune for Qatari Organisations

Intune comes with many Microsoft 365 licences and is where Microsoft-centric IT teams start; Endpoint Central is the unified endpoint management platform IT operations teams choose for patching, deployment, remote control and on-premise hosting. This comparison sets out which fits.

The short version

Microsoft Intune is cloud-native device management tightly integrated with Azure AD, Microsoft 365 and Defender, strongest for Windows and mobile devices in a Microsoft cloud estate, and often already licensed. Endpoint Central is unified endpoint management across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and Chrome OS, with third-party patching, software deployment, remote control, OS imaging, USB control and asset management, available on-premise or in the cloud.

We are a ManageEngine partner and do not implement Intune. Qatari IT teams ask us this when Intune is 'free' with their licences but does not patch the third-party software that audits flag, or cannot run on-premise. The sections below decide it.

Patching

Both patch Windows. The difference is third-party software: browsers, Java, PDF readers, collaboration tools and the hundreds of applications vulnerability scanners flag. Endpoint Central patches a large catalogue of third-party applications with test groups and deployment windows; Intune's third-party patching is limited and typically supplemented with other tools. See Patch Manager Plus for the patching-only product.

Hosting and data residency

Endpoint Central runs on-premise inside Qatar or in ManageEngine's cloud. Intune is cloud-only in Microsoft's regions. For Qatari organisations with data-residency policies, air-gapped sites or public-sector clients, this can decide it on its own. See Endpoint Central implementation.

Microsoft 365 integration

Intune's strength is the Microsoft stack: conditional access with Azure AD, Defender for Endpoint, Autopilot provisioning and Microsoft 365 app management are native. Endpoint Central integrates with Active Directory and Azure AD and coexists with Intune where organisations use Intune for conditional access and Endpoint Central for patching, deployment and remote control.

Integration with IT operations

Endpoint Central connects to ServiceDesk Plus for tickets and asset data, Vulnerability Manager Plus for assessment, and Log360 for security events. Intune connects to the Microsoft security and compliance stack.

Who should choose which

  • Choose Endpoint Central if you need third-party patching, a mixed OS estate, remote control and imaging in one console, or on-premise hosting.
  • Choose Intune if you are Microsoft-centric, cloud-only is acceptable, conditional access is the priority, and third-party patching is handled elsewhere.
  • Run both with Intune for identity-driven access and Endpoint Central for operations, which is common.
The Qatar view

Endpoint Central vs Microsoft Intune for Qatari Organisations: what matters in Qatar

IT teams in Qatar support Arabic and English users across Doha offices, Lusail sites and industrial locations, often under client or regulator requirements to keep data in the GCC. Licence cost in QAR, hosting options and a partner who can deliver ITIL-aligned processes locally shape the decision more than feature parity.

We implement ManageEngine in Qatar and can also integrate with Microsoft and Atlassian tools where a client standard requires them.

Questions before you book

In a limited way. Endpoint Central patches a large third-party catalogue.

Yes.

Yes. Many organisations use Intune for conditional access and Endpoint Central for patching, deployment and remote control.

Yes.

It is included in some Microsoft 365 licences; check your plan.

No. We are a ManageEngine partner.

For most mid-sized Qatar organisations the option with on-premise or GCC hosting, Arabic-capable portals and lower per-technician cost wins; organisations already standardised on Microsoft or Atlassian may prefer to stay within that stack.

ManageEngine products can be installed on your own servers in Qatar. Cloud editions of all vendors run in regional data centres, so check any client data-residency clause first.
