Zoho Books vs Wafeq for Qatar Businesses

Wafeq is an accounting platform designed for Qatari and Gulf businesses and the accountants who serve them; Zoho Books is the accounting app of a full business suite. This comparison sets out where each fits.

The short version

Wafeq is built for the region: e-invoicing compliance, Arabic and English, bookkeeping workflows suited to accounting firms and their clients, and a clean ledger for SMEs. Zoho Books offers the same compliance and languages in its Qatar edition and adds what a growing business needs around the ledger: CRM, inventory, projects, HR and payroll, helpdesk and analytics in one suite.

We are a Zoho Premium Partner and do not implement Wafeq. The comparison usually arises when an accounting firm keeps clients on Wafeq and a client's operations outgrow it. The sections below decide it.

Compliance and languages

Both handle Qatar e-invoicing and VAT and work in Arabic and English. Neither removes the need to configure tax codes and the e-invoicing route for your phase, and to clean customer VAT numbers before go-live. See GTA e-invoicing.

Who should choose which

  • Choose Wafeq if you want a focused ledger with strong accountant collaboration and no operational apps around it.
  • Choose Zoho Books if accounting must connect to CRM, Inventory, payroll or projects, or you run several entities.

Migration

The Qatar view

Zoho Books vs Wafeq for Qatar Businesses: what matters in Qatar

For a Qatar company the comparison comes down to a few local facts: invoices must carry the details the General Tax Authority expects, withholding tax has to be captured on supplier bills, there is no VAT yet but the system should be ready for it, and the finance team usually works in Arabic and English at the same time.

Pricing in QAR, bank feeds from Qatari banks, support in Doha working hours and a partner who can migrate your opening balances matter more than feature counts. We implement and support the option that fits, and say so when neither does.

Questions before you book

Yes, with configuration for your phase.

Wafeq is designed around that; Zoho Books also supports accountant access.

Zoho Books, because of the suite.

Yes.

Comparable for a small entity.

No.

It depends on your entity structure and volume. A single mainland company with straightforward invoicing can run on the lighter option; a group with withholding tax, multiple entities or stock usually needs the fuller ERP. We confirm this in a short review of your documents.

Both can be configured so withholding is captured on the supplier bill and the annual return reconciles to the ledger, but the setup, not the product, decides whether it works. That configuration is part of our implementation.
